What's new in SteelSmart® System 6 *Service Pack 1 Now Available!
New Lateral Load Generator/Distributor and Integration with SSS-SW Design Module: The Lateral Load Generator/Distributor tool takes dimensions and load specs for a building and calculates the total lateral wind and seismic loads. Then it distributes the lateral loads between floors and between shear walls in each floor. The distribution method takes into consideration type of floor diaphragm (rigid or flexible) and torsional effects of rigid diaphragms. The tool exports load data to SW design module and full output to a standard Excel sheet. * New to SP1: - The Drawing Generator for component layout and details has been extended to truss and roof modules. - New Shear Wall Design Grouping tool that allows the user to add multiple shear walls (with different loads (and/or) dimensions) to groups. Once these groups are transferred to the StiffWall® Design component, each group can be designed as one StiffWall® design for the worst case scenario.
New Moment-Resisting Short Wall Framing Component A new design component module that includes templates interior partition short wall, parapet wall and strip window framing using moment-resisting MidWall™ framing. - Elaborated anchor design in Moment Resisting Short Wall module - Limit state design algorithm is used to calculate the moment arm and anchor tension force.
New Layout and Connection Details Drawer (Drawing Generator) A major addition to SSS 6.0 is the new Layout and Connection Details Drawer that plots framing layout of the wall and adds the connection design data (clip designation, # of fasteners, embedment, and screw pattern) to the typical connection detail. The drawing can be exported in AutoCAD® DXF format. - Output data in the Drawing Generator has been enhanced with improved representation of wall connections details and bridging details.
New Building Design Code The new building design code “2009 IBC” with the new CFS design specification “AISI S100-07” are implemented in SSS6.0.
Updated Section Properties Calculator Built-up sections have been added to the database of the Section Properties Calculator. This allows the calculation of section properties and design loads for shapes such as back to back, toe to toe, boxed header, and multiple stud/track section shapes. - More built-up section shapes have been added. Calculation of effective sections properties have been reviewd and refined.
Updated Load Bearing Wall Component Design A new load bearing post template has been added into the load bearing component design.
Updated StiffWall® Shear wall Component Design Welded boot-to-column option has been added as connection alternative for bolts in the StiffWall® Shear wall Component Design.
Updated Section Layout for Stud Design Toe-to-Toe section layout has been added to the available section layouts (Back-to-Back and Single section) for vertical stud member design.
Updated Bridging Selection Briding selection has been adjusted according to wall section layout in all wall modules. Strap bracing and bridging clips have been updated for toe-to-toe stud layout.
Updated Lateral Bracing Options Flat Strap has been added to available lateral bracing (bridging) members.
Updated HILTI Fasteners Database Fasteners database has been updated to reflect new Hilti fastener types (X-U….. etc).
New TSN Curtain Wall Stud Database TSN curtain wall studs are studs with double return lips that offer higher stiffness and deflection-resistance compared to standard "Cee" sections.
Enhanced Connection Design Algorithm in Curtain Wall Module Torsional moment effects of wall connectors having eccentricity between point of loading and point of support are condsidered.
Updated SSMA Section Database The SSMA stud and track section database has been updated based on the 2010 SSMA Product Catalog.
Updated LSF Component Details Tool Roof Details library has been updated and renumbered to reflect current roof scenarios
Additional Clip Illiustrations Clip illustrations have been added to facilitate clip selection in Wall Modules.
Updated cantilever Wall Deflection Calculations Deflection value at the tip of a cantilever is calculated relative to the deflection at the base of a cantilever, instead of using absolute deflection value.
Updated Truss and Roof Modules Support reactions in Truss and Roof modules are displayed
Updated User Manual and Technical Manual The User Manual and Technical Manual have been updated to reflect these new tools to assist in the use of their full potential.
Other Improvements General enhancements have been made in the Load Bearing Wall, X-Brace Shear Wall, Connection/Clip Selector Tool and Screw Connection Design Tool
